Help for Victims of Domestic Violence in Will County and the Chicago Metro Area

Domestic violence is a serious crime which produces family disharmony, promotes a pattern of escalating violence that frequently ends in homicide, and creates an emotional atmosphere that is not conducive to healthy childhood development. Domestic abuse does not have to be a physical act, as harassment and threats can cause significant fear and hinder the lives and development of victims and their families.

Further, under Illinois law, any household member can be the perpetrator of domestic abuse. This includes blood relatives living in the household, current or former spouses, roommates or former roommates, those in a boyfriend or girlfriend relationship, parents who share a child, personal assistants of those with disabilities, and those who are currently or where formally engaged to be married.

If you have been the victim of domestic abuse, act immediately to put an end to it. Attorney Roland P. Ernst is here to help you and your family. His legal knowledge, personal compassion, and reputation for results have given hope to victims of domestic abuse for nearly 40 years. Your safety and that of your family are his primary concerns.

Do not continue to live in fear. Contact our Cook County domestic violence attorney today at (708) 394-7361 or contact us online here.

Orders for Protection in Illinois

In Illinois, you may protect yourself and restrict your abuser from causing further injury to you or your child by having your attorney file for an Order of Protection in civil court. You may also request for an order to be put in place while you are going through your divorce proceedings. With this Order in place, your abuser will be prohibited from coming into contact with you and your children, bar your abuser from damaging personal property, award you temporary legal custody, and provide other legal protections, as specified in the Order.

The following may be grounds for an Order of Protection:

  • Physical violence
  • Threats
  • Intimidation
  • Harassment
  • Stalking
  • Interference with personal liberty

If you have been the victim of one or more of these acts, the Law Offices of Carr, O'Rourke & Ernst, LTD can act quickly to assist you in obtaining an emergency Order of Protection. An Order of Protection will not only prohibit further abuse, but may also grant you exclusive possession of the residence, enabling you to live in peace free from further abuse.

No one should live in fear because of abuse, and if you are suffering abuse at the hands of a spouse or former spouse or other household member, contact our firm to discuss strategies for ensuring your safety.
